Dr. Adele Parker

CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST

Dr. Adele Parker obtained a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2004 and is registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health & Care Professions Council (PYL19234), a Chartered Clinical Psychologist, a Graduate Member and Fellowship Member of the British Psychological Society, and the Division of Clinical Psychology (Membership No. 040590). Adele is also a member of the EMDR Association, UK and Ireland (Membership No. J148).

Adele has over 16 years working within the field of child and young people’s mental health, working with a wide range of generic mental health difficulties, including anxiety-based problems (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Phobias, Health Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Separation Anxiety), and depression. She has extensive specialist experience working in the field of trauma, an umbrella term to describe adverse life experiences ranging from bullying at school, single event traumas, such as rape, or road traffic accidents, to mass terror and natural disasters, to developmental trauma (individuals who have experienced trauma throughout their early development, such as maltreatment, family violence, or disruption in attachment to their primary caregiver).   Secondary difficulties associated with many adverse experiences can include addiction, challenging behavior, eating difficulties, low self-esteem, and self-harm.

Adele strongly believes there are always good reasons to understand why people behave in the ways that they do. By establishing an excellent therapeutic rapport with the children, young people, and their families, together they work as a team at ‘putting the pieces together; looking at possible factors that may have played a role in precipitating and maintaining their difficulties. This then forms the basis of tailoring an intervention around the individual that addresses the underlying issues and in doing so helps to bring about change.

Finally, Adele undertakes regular clinical professional development to ensure that her clients receive the highest quality of care. She has expertise in several therapeutic orientations, with particular emphasis on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR), and attachment-based therapies, such as Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP, Level 1)
