Understanding bladder leakage

Stress urinary incontinence is leakage associated with pressure on the bladder, for example when coughing, laughing or exercising. Urgency, difficulty emptying the bladder and other symptoms can have different causes.

Assessment before treatment

The clinician considers the pattern of your symptoms, previous pregnancies, health history and other possible causes. CM Slim pelvic-floor treatment is considered only where appropriate; other assessment or treatment may be advised.

Privacy, comfort & ongoing review

The clinician explains how the clinic’s treatment is delivered, with privacy and comfort respected throughout. CM Slim uses electromagnetic stimulation to produce pelvic-floor muscle contractions; the clinician discusses whether this approach is appropriate for your pattern of leakage. Tell the clinician about pregnancy, implanted devices and any urinary symptoms needing further investigation.

Your treatment, explained

Not every leak has the same cause

Urinary incontinence means involuntary leakage of urine. It may be temporary or persistent, from occasional leakage to more continuous symptoms. Identifying the type is important before choosing care.

  • Stress: leakage with coughing, laughing, exercise or other pressure
  • Urgency: a sudden strong urge followed by leakage
  • Overflow: leakage associated with incomplete bladder emptying
  • Total: persistent leakage where urine cannot be stored normally

Why stress leakage develops

Weakness or damage affecting the pelvic floor and urinary sphincter can contribute. Pregnancy, vaginal birth, obesity, family history and age-related changes may play a part, although leakage is not inevitable with ageing. Assessment also checks for other causes and symptoms needing investigation.

Where CM Slim may fit

Electromagnetic stimulation produces pelvic-floor contractions and is considered for selected symptoms after clinical assessment. The intended aim is improved muscle strength and control, but benefits are not guaranteed. It does not replace pelvic-floor rehabilitation or other recommended care. Your clinician explains how it compares with the other options available.

Your treatment questions

No. Leakage with coughing or exercise differs from urgency, infection or difficulty emptying the bladder. A clinical assessment helps distinguish these causes.

Yes. Your symptom pattern, health history and previous pregnancies or pelvic procedures are considered first. The clinician may recommend pelvic-floor exercises or further investigation instead.

Blood in the urine, painful urination, fever, new difficulty passing urine or rapidly changing symptoms need medical assessment rather than booking an aesthetic procedure.
