(Tirzepatide)
Once-weekly injection penA once-weekly dual-hormone medicine prescribed within specialist obesity care — never as a stand-alone answer.
Nothing is prescribed without one.
A doctor reviews your medical history, current medicines, conditions and the factors driving your weight before any treatment is recommended.
It is prescribed following your consultation. In the UK, treatment is dispensed by a licensed pharmacy and delivered to your address anywhere in the UK. In Chennai, it is collected in person from the clinic.
Nothing is issued on repeat without review. Before each supply you tell us how you are getting on, and a doctor reviews how you are responding, how you are tolerating treatment and anything that has changed before deciding.
Every prescription follows individual review by a doctor and stays under ongoing clinical supervision.
Patients are invited to regular online education evenings and live Q&A sessions, covering nutrition, muscle preservation, managing side effects and planning for the long term.
You can tell us about side effects or concerns at any point between consultations, not only at your next appointment.

Mounjaro contains tirzepatide, a prescription medicine given as a once-weekly injection under the skin. It is licensed in the UK for weight management in adults who meet the criteria, and for type 2 diabetes.
Tirzepatide is a dual agonist: it acts on both the GIP and GLP-1 receptors. A head-to-head trial found greater average weight reduction with tirzepatide than semaglutide. Having two targets does not establish which medicine is best for an individual.
Suitability depends on your medical history, your other medicines, pregnancy plans and the balance of potential benefit and risk — which is exactly what a specialist consultation is for.
Tirzepatide mimics GIP and GLP-1, two gut hormones released after eating that influence appetite, fullness and insulin release.
Food leaves the stomach more slowly, so fullness lasts longer and post-meal glucose rises more gently.
Glucose control often improves early, which is why diabetes and blood-pressure medicines may need adjusting during treatment.

UK Mounjaro comes in a pre-filled multi-dose KwikPen holding four weekly doses. Your nurse or doctor teaches the dose-selection and injection technique before your first use.
In the SURMOUNT-1 trial, adults with obesity taking tirzepatide alongside lifestyle support lost substantially more weight than those on placebo over 72 weeks. Trial averages describe groups, not individuals.
SURMOUNT-1, New England Journal of Medicine, 2022. Your own result depends on dose, tolerance, nutrition, activity and long-term support.
Mounjaro is a once-weekly self-injection. Treatment starts low and increases gradually, normally at four-week intervals, so your body has time to adjust.
Most people find side effects are strongest in the days after a dose increase, which is why escalation is never rushed and always reviewed.
Do not change your dose unless your doctor has told you to.
2.5mg is a starting dose only. Maintenance is individual — some people do best at 5mg, others need to continue escalating.
Discuss your care with the clinic that is right for you.
Like all medicines, Mounjaro may cause side effects. Most are mild and settle as your body adjusts. Seek urgent medical help for severe, persistent abdominal pain, especially if it spreads to the back, with or without vomiting.
Always read the Patient Information Leaflet. Contact your clinic or your doctor with any concerns.
Read the Mounjaro patient information leafletWeight rarely travels alone. Below is where tirzepatide fits within each condition we treat, with published evidence you can read for yourself.

Obesity driven by several overlapping causes — hormonal, medication-related, psychological and metabolic.
Read the condition pageWhere Mounjaro fits: One part of a coordinated plan built after blood tests and root-cause assessment, alongside nutrition, movement and psychological support.
Published evidence
Insulin resistance and raised blood glucose that often improve as weight and body composition change.
Read the condition pageWhere Mounjaro fits: Tirzepatide improves glucose control and weight together, so diabetes medicines frequently need reviewing and reducing during treatment.
Published evidence
Fat accumulation in the liver that can progress to inflammation and fibrosis if left unaddressed.
Read the condition pageWhere Mounjaro fits: Sustained weight reduction is the strongest lever on liver fat; treatment sits alongside liver function tests and FibroScan monitoring.
Published evidence
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) — insulin resistance, cycle disruption and androgen excess.
Read the condition pageWhere Mounjaro fits: Weight and insulin sensitivity improvements can help cycle regularity; contraception and pregnancy plans must be discussed first.
Published evidence
Weight and insulin resistance influence ovulation, sperm quality and the chance of conception.
Read the condition pageWhere Mounjaro fits: Used to prepare metabolic health before conception, then stopped in good time — tirzepatide must not be used in pregnancy.
Published evidence
Appetite signalling returns when GLP-1 treatment stops, and regain is common without a maintenance plan.
Read the condition pageWhere Mounjaro fits: Dose is tapered or maintained deliberately, with a structured maintenance plan rather than an abrupt stop.
Published evidenceThe Specialist Weight Management Plan is our most intensive option for the most complex cases. Dr Raj recommends it after your initial consultation where it is the right level of support. Not everyone needs it. For others, consultations and review alone are enough, and what you are offered depends on what is actually going on.

GLP-1 medicines slow stomach emptying, which can cause nausea, fullness, constipation, or, rarely, more serious motility problems; symptoms are not always preventable. Eat smaller meals and follow the prescriber's advice, and seek urgent assessment for severe persistent pain, repeated vomiting, or inability to keep fluids down.

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) may improve weight and insulin-related features in some people with PCOS, but it is not a proven cure and evidence specific to PCOS is still developing. Discuss approved indications, contraception, pregnancy plans, and alternatives with a clinician; do not use it during pregnancy.

Mounjaro is not licensed specifically to treat erectile dysfunction, and any improvement would be indirect if metabolic health changes. Erectile dysfunction needs assessment for cardiovascular, diabetes, medication, and hormonal causes; do not delay evaluation while pursuing weight treatment.

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) can support weight management for some people who meet prescribing criteria, including during or after menopause. It does not treat menopause or replace hormone therapy, and menopause-specific evidence is limited; discuss suitability and symptoms with a clinician.

There is no strong evidence that Mounjaro directly raises or lowers sexual desire. Nausea, fatigue, mood, other medicines and health changes can affect libido; seek a review if a change persists or troubles you rather than changing treatment yourself.

People vary in their response to semaglutide, and limited weight change does not necessarily mean they are biologically 'resistant.' Dose and duration, missed doses, other medicines, health conditions and individual biology can matter; review progress with a prescriber before changing treatment.
Treatment is one option among several, and which one suits you depends on your history, your other conditions and what has been tried before. That is what the consultation is for.
